The Planters’ Bungalow. A Journey down the Malay Peninsula

Planter's Bungalow-terracota web

Editions Didier Millet, Singapore. ISBN:978-981-4217-31-6 2007. Reprinted 2012

Authors Peter and Waveney Jenkins journeyed down the Malay Peninsula from Penang to Johore and across to Kelantan and Pahang and every place in between to investigate over 300 pre-WW2 bungalows, visit over 100 Estates and interview over 250 planters, retired planters and their families. They visited not only Malaysia but also Scotlnd, England and the Isle of Man to produce this illustrated record of a neglected aspect of Malaysia’s early plantation industry.

The book features numerous contemporary and archival photographs of these fine buildings and the lives that were lived within them. The text is written in an engaging style embellished with the insightful often humorous reminiscences of people who are or were involved in the planting of rubber and oil palm in Malaysia

Copies can be obtained from us in the Isle of Man, or from Amazon
